Warning Signs, Causes and solutions

Ice Damming: Normally caused by improper insulation or soffit ventilation causing snow to melt above the heated living space and freeze as it reaches an unheated area of the roof. Can also be caused by blocked soffit.

Signs to look for: Excessive ice buildup around the edges of your roof. From the attic, you can see light coming in at the outer edge of your roof.

Solutions: Install insulation stops to allow air flow and if necessary add extra ventilation in to the soffit.
